Suggested i Club Bylaws Preamble PREAMBLE On this __ day of month, year, we the students of school come together to form a Chapter of The i Club. By adopting the following Bylaws, we agree to uphold the mission of The i Club and our Chapter to the best of our abilities. ARCTICLE 1 SECTION 1. The i Club & The i Club Headquarters SECTION 2. Chapter SECTION 3. Executive Committee SECTION 4. General Body ARTICLE II SECTION 1. The name of this organization shall be the school name Chapter of The i Club. ARTICLE III SECTION 1. The purpose of the Chapter is to carry forward the programs and purposes of The i Club. The Chapter shall seek to raise awareness in its community on risk issues including, but not limited to, sexual assault, healthy relationships, sexual harassment, and alcohol abuse. To accomplish this, the Chapter will strive to hold at least three relevant educational and/or fundraising events each academic year and advocate for the expansion of relevant student and faculty resources. The Chapter shall also seek to earn monies to donate to The i Club for the advancement of its mission. ARTICLE IV SECTION 1. The Chapter will allow membership to anyone who wishes to become a member and has interests in the Chapter’s designated risk issues. SECTION 2. The Chapter will not discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, creed, nationality, age or popularity. SECTION 3. The Chapter reserves the right to deny or revoke membership to anyone who fails to uphold the Chapter’s mission or acts in a manner that is inconsistent with the Chapter’s mission. SECTION 4. The Chapter understands that The i Club Headquarters reserves the right to revoke Chapter membership if the Chapter demonstrates negligence, acts in a manner that is inconsistent with The i Club’s mission, or acts in a manner that is inconsistent with these Bylaws. SECTION 5. The Executive Committee shall determine all additional membership criterion such as dues, time commitments, etc. so long as new criterion does not interfere with these Bylaws ARTICLE V SECTION 1. The officers of the Chapter shall be President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Event Coordinator. Terms of office shall be one year and shall coincide with the academic year of the educational institution at which the Chapter resides. SECTION 2. The President shall preside over all Chapter meetings. The President shall ensure that the Chapter complies with all requirements set by The i Club or the Chapter’s educational institution of residence. SECTION 3. The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining all accounts and records related to the financial duties of the Chapter. SECTION 4. The Secretary or Historian shall keep detailed minutes of each Chapter meeting and maintain the administrative records of the Chapter. The Secretary shall maintain a written and/or visual history of Chapter events, highlights, and successes. Section 5. No position shall be officed by more than one individual nor shall one individual hold multiple offices provided that the membership of the Chapter allows feasibility of this provision. SECTION 6. The Event Coordinator shall assume primary responsibility for the planning and organization of the Chapter’s educational and fundraising programs. SECTION 7. The Executive Committee shall have the power to expand a current officer’s duties as it deems necessary. SECTION 8. The Executive Committee shall have the power to create an office whose term is concurrent with that of the Executive Committee as it deems necessary. SECTION 9. The Chapter shall at all times have a Faculty Advisor. The Faculty Advisor shall be a faculty member with interest in the Chapter’s agreed upon risk issues. The Faculty Advisor shall be selected by the Executive Committee and assist the Chapter with its programming and administrative duties. ARTICLE VI SECTION 1. The Chapter will be a self-governing body within the student activities guidelines at the educational institution at which the Chapter resides. SECTION 2. The Chapter reserves the right to select its own officers including the Faculty Advisor. The i Club does not retain the right to interfere in the selection of officers. SECTION 3. The Chapter shall provide periodic written reports to The i Club Headquarters. These reports will keep Headquarters informed of its work. At a minimum, the Chapter shall submit an annual year-end report detailing the financial, membership, and programming activities of the Chapter. SECTION 4. With exception of negligence or a misrepresentation of The i Club’s mission and purposes, the Chapter shall maintain autonomy. Otherwise, The i Club Headquarters will not interfere with Chapter’s operations unless requested to by the Chapter. ARTICLE VII SECTION 1. The Chapter shall endeavor to hold at least one meeting open to the General Body per month during the academic year. SECTION 2. The President, or the President’s nominee if the President is unable to attend, shall facilitate Chapter meetings. SECTION 3. Meetings shall be open to all those who wish to attend. SECTION 4. During Chapter meetings, the Chapter shall endeavor to accomplish the following:
ARTICLE VII SECTION 1. The officers of the Chapter shall be elected by a plurality vote of the members present at a meeting designated for elections and at which a majority of the General Body is present. SECTION 2. Each member of the Chapter, including incumbent officers, shall have one vote per office election. SECTION 3. Elections shall be held in the last quarter of the academic year. The executive committee shall determine the exact date of elections. The executive committee shall endeavor to inform the General Body of elections at least two weeks prior. SECTION 4. Officer-elects will take office following the final meeting of the school year at which the General Body is present. SECTION 5. Graduating seniors are not eligible to run for any office. Graduating seniors may vote. ARTICLE IX SECTION 1. The Chapter shall endeavor to hold at least three educational and/or fundraising events per school year. SECTION 2. The Chapter recognizes that The i Club requests that all chapters complete an Awareness Week, an i Club fund-raiser, and a Pre-Prom Event. SECTION 3. The Chapter understands that one of its primary goals is to raise monies for The i Club and the advancement of its mission. SECTION 4. The Chapter agrees that it will not make donations directly to local organizations but rather all earned monies will be sent to The i Club Headquarters. If the Chapter would like to see earned monies used for a specific or local purpose, it should send a request in writing to The i Club Headquarters. ARTICLE X SECTION 1. If the Chapter ceases activity, it shall communicate this to The i Club Headquarters and inform Headquarters of its reason for dissolution. ARTICLE XI SECTION 1. These Bylaws may be amended by a 2/3 vote at a meeting at which a majority of the General Body is present. SECTION 2. If an amendment should be passed, the Chapter shall submit a revised copy of these Bylaws to The i Club Headquarters for record-keeping purposes. We, the undersigned, accept these bylaws as the governing rules of the Chapter.
